Larry Prentiss is a composer, producer, vocalist, and an entrepreneur. He is best known for his Anita Baker and Dianne Schuur/Jose Feliciano compositions.

Larry started his musical career at the age of nine in Livonia, Michigan. He played saxophone in elementary school, high school, and college. While in junior high school he joined a rock band and began playing the bass.

During this time Larry was influenced by all of the great Motown artists. As a Detroit native, he was especially impacted by bassist, James Jamerson. Later on, Stanley Clarke, Jaco, and many others played an significant role in his continuing musical education.
While in school Larry continued to play in many bands and perform at local clubs, schools, and recording sessions. He performed briefly with the Rare Earth Band, and his band also opened for Little Richard. Having written and recorded a number of original songs, Larry also performed on many local TV shows.

In 1973, Larry moved to California and studied bass guitar with such legends as Carol Kaye and Chuck Rainey. While in California, Larry began working at local clubs and played for many industry social events such as, the Academy Awards, the Ace Awards, and the Espy Awards.
A few years later, he joined the Johnny Rivers Band where he recorded and toured for five years. During this time, he got the opportunity to perform in the main showrooms in Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe, as well as perform on several Dick Clark and Midnight Special shows. 

Larry also was a member of the Pat Boone Band. He toured throughout the United States and even traveled to several far east countries, which proved to be a great musical and cultural experience. While touring with Pat, Larry also performed for many dignitaries including President Ronald Reagan.

While playing sessions with the top LA studio musicians, Larry continued to pursue his writing career. His writing credits include “By Design,” featured in the movie Perfect, which was recorded by Dianne Schuur and Jose Feliciano. Anita Baker also recorded “Lead Me Into Love,” for which Larry was awarded an ASCAP Award for writer/publisher.
